We have gathered potential issues that users may encounter during installation or update of the PC Client.
OBS! Before any update, please make sure that you do not have pending uploads. Updates can be postponed by ignoring the update toast, or selecting a reminder interval.
1.) Screen stuck on white background (Windows 11) or black background (Windows 10) following installation or update. This may happen if the installation or update is performed while logged in to a non-admin Windows session.
To avoid: Perform the installation or update using an Admin Windows session.
To resolve: Press ctrl+shift+esc keys at the same time to open Task Manager. In the Processes tab, Restart the Windows Explorer process. If there's no such process, click File -> Run new task, and type in explorer.exe and click OK.
2.) Installation or update does not start on system with multiple users. This may occur if multiple users have the RushFiles process running.
To resolve: Log in with the Admin session and kill the RushFiles process for all users. OBS! Make sure those users are not actively working with files or have pending uploads.
3.) After installation or update, the client does not start, even if you start it manually.
This may happen due to case a.) the installation package not being downloaded correctly, or case b.) if a Visual C++ 2015 x64 version below v14.25 is installed on the computer.
Case a.) To resolve: Run the installer again from C:\ProgramData\RushFiles\RF_Installer.exe , or download it again from the web client. OBS! The C:\ProgramData folder is hidden.
Case b.) To resolve:
- Press the Windows key + R at the same time to open the Run prompt.
- Type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter to open the Programs and Features menu.
- Scroll down in the list until you find Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64).
- If the numbers after the dash ( - ) are lower than 14.25, select the row, and click Uninstall on the top.
- Once the component has been uninstalled, start RushFiles, and you will be prompted that VC++ needs to be installed. Click OK, and it will be installed automatically.
OBS!:
- The year in the component's name might be: 2015-2017, 2015-2019, or 2015-2022, depending how recent your version is.
- Do not uninstall 32-bit versions (x86) as well as versions from 2013 and earlier. This will not help and may break other software that relies on it.
